There’s life in St. Louis School Don-Bosco

by Aiken Emmanuel G. Quipot

How we missed everyone’s company… the time we saw each other’s faces that night… those smiles that we fail to spot before… those boisterous laughter.. ‘Sigh….

Though I knew the usual alumni homecoming event in Don-Bosco to be dreary as what I’ve experienced in past years, I never hesitated to go there at least to spend quality time with my batch mates. (Oh goodness how I missed them so much!) As soon as I stepped on our old campus that night, I was crammed with strange anticipation as to how my class mates would actually look like. I mean you don’t know what became out of them after 5 years huh. And that feeling enthused me more, pushed me into what is called a dilemma of some sort, putting into my mind how those guys went out of college with “flying colors” (and im still stuck in school, well we’re a bunch actually. Hehehehe).
And so the night began as my classmates arrived in short intervals.

As I walked through the halls of the old building and never noticed a single difference to what it was before, my high school days flashed back in my memory. I remembered my “chika” moments with my teachers, how they would actually call me and my friends every time we walked pass that faculty room, I remembered our monthly class masses in that small chapel that is now converted into an office (the only portion that was converted). How I used to drop by the Youth Minister’s office to look for the latest Don-Bosco memorabilia. The canteen! Oh the canteen. It was still the same. Except for the new TV set up near the ceiling. Hehe. I remembered how we make the canteen as our “savior” once we didn’t have assignments (we used to make our assignments there). I retained in my mind every time I arrived in school and noticed the canteen all packed up with students making their homework. And the Gym, how we perfected those rows of lines per section and how we noticed each others uniforms to be what it was to be. Hehe If it’s crumpled, shame on you. Hahaha. The daily morning prayers, the line of late students at the back of the gym, etc… It was as if I was walking back to that superb past.

The gym was packed with alumni from all walks of life. And of course, I went straight to our batch’s crowd. I was glad to spot old friends who with me once had good and bad times together. My classmates, who were just there in school just to be in school, there were those guys who, in one way or the other, were considered as the beauties, the hotties, hunks, nerds, clowns, etc… I was surprised to act the same way I was in high school… and so they were too. Not mentioning our looks compared to the other alumni batches… heheh… we remained as young; we looked as if we were just fresh graduates. For real! As for the faculty, I was glad to see some of my old teachers who were close to my heart. They were the best teachers I’ve ever encountered in my scholastic life and I give them all the credits for what they did to me and to the alumni who were there. The teachers who I always impersonate in front of my classmates every time they came in late for class, the teachers who I played tennis with every Friday night, and to all the terrors, I salute you all! You did exactly what a teacher should do.

That night was spent with reminiscing the life in high school. I would forever keep those memories in my treasure chest coz I know I made a good choice of enrolling in Don-Boso. No regrets.

Though it’s been said many times in many ways, nothing compares to high school life.

To all my old high school friends! Looking forward to the next alumni homecoming! See you guys again soon!
